DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

DAY 1 – SOUTH COAST → UDAWALAWE SAFARI → YALA

Your journey begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Kosgoda, Ahungalla, Bentota, or Induruwa. The drive inland takes you through rural villages, reservoirs, and dry-zone landscapes.

Udawalawe National Park Safari

Upon arrival near Udawalawe National Park, you will transfer to a 4×4 safari jeep accompanied by an experienced local tracker. Udawalawe’s open terrain makes it one of the best parks in Sri Lanka for wildlife viewing.

During the safari, you may see:

  • Large herds of wild elephants
  • Water buffalo and deer
  • Crocodiles near water reservoirs
  • Monitor lizards
  • Eagles, peacocks, and other bird species

The safari usually lasts 3–4 hours, depending on wildlife activity.

Elephant Transit Home (Optional)

Drive to Yala / Tissamaharama

DAY 2 – YALA SAFARI → RETURN TO SOUTH COAST

Early Morning Yala National Park Safari

Early morning is the best time to explore Yala National Park, as wildlife is most active during the cooler hours. After an early breakfast or packed breakfast, you will enter the park in a 4×4 safari jeep.

During the safari, you may encounter:

  • Leopards resting on rocks or moving through the forest
  • Elephants near waterholes
  • Sloth bears (seasonal sightings)
  • Wild buffalo, deer, and wild boar
  • Crocodiles in lagoons
