DETAILED ITINERARY

Early Morning – Pick-up from Your Hotel

Your safari adventure begins with an early morning private pick-up from your hotel in Kosgoda, Ahungalla, Bentota, or Induruwa. An early start is essential to reach Udawalawe on time and to maximize wildlife sightings.

As you travel inland, you will pass through changing landscapes including villages, reservoirs, open grasslands, and farming areas.

Arrival at Udawalawe National Park

Upon arrival near Udawalawe National Park, you will transfer to a 4×4 safari jeep with an experienced local tracker. Udawalawe is known for its open terrain, making it easier to spot animals compared to dense forest parks.

Udawalawe Jeep Safari

The safari inside Udawalawe National Park usually lasts around 3 to 4 hours, depending on wildlife activity and park conditions.

During the safari, you may see:

• Large herds of wild elephants
• Water buffalo
• Spotted deer and sambar deer
• Crocodiles resting near water bodies
• Monitor lizards
• Eagles, peacocks, and many bird species

Elephant sightings are very common, but as animals are wild, sightings can never be guaranteed.

Elephant Transit Home (Optional)

After the safari, you will visit the Elephant Transit Home, located just outside the park. This center focuses on rehabilitating orphaned elephant calves with minimal human contact before releasing them back into the wild.

Visitors can observe:

Lunch Break (Optional)

Afternoon – Return Journey to the South Coast
